Why was Croatia’s injury-time goal disallowed against Portugal in Round of 32?

The incident happened in the injury time with Portugal leading 2-1. Perisic swung in a cross from the left which pinballed around in the six-yard box before Gvardiol bundled it in, only for the referee to deem the play offside.
